Zeng's artistic work rests mainly on watercolor for subject of nature. He is a big fan of nature and travels constantly; after residing in Taitung , the ocean became his best companion. Zeng enjoys the beauty of ocean's magnificence and transformation; he also takes great interest in ocean's ecological philosophy and concludes: "waves do not come in parallel but triangle shape, displaying a permanent force in the midst of unvarying propagation; ocean is not a gypsy to roam about, but a wise man within fluctuation to symbolize the nature order." Undoubtedly, ocean is an ideal subject for Zeng's never¬ ending creation.
Zeng's work embodies a style that sits on the fence between realism and abstractionism; through observation and his own thoughts, he reorganizes the nature and expresses his internal humane concern, attaining an ideal effect. To Zeng, creation is a process of thinking and recreation, as well as a philosophy. "There are hundreds of thousands ways to manifest paintings, it is crucial to employ the way that one truly enjoys. By immersing oneself in the painting, one is able to reaffirm him/herself' Zeng points out. "Recreation" and "self' are two essential elements in Zeng's work to present authentic delight; he draws materials from Taitung for his work on nature, which mirrors his genuine self through Zen. Zeng indicates the importance of artistic conception in planning one's life, as Taitung encompasses the view and landscape that go beyond description by word, but it is when one begins drawing the view, s/he properly senses the true pleasure. In line with his creation, Zeng is also interested in the study of materials, such as the experience on paper quality, discover of unfading watercolor substance, how to employ plastic substance, how to prevent work composed of transparent watercolor from diffusing in water, and how to mingle Chinese ink and watercolor. Those studies enable Zeng to further his creations and those who wish to advance watercolor techniques.
Zhuang Zhou, a highly respectful Chinese philosopher, has said: 'The heaven and the earth show their beauty with no words." It is the calling and mission of an art educator and creator, such as Zeng, to display the grant beauty of the heaven and the earth. Through his interpretation of the nature, we therefore have something to rely on and feel the love of arts.
